The Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull is undoubtedly the most famous of the crystal skulls that so far have been called ancient. Several books have been written about it. It has appeared in many radio and TV programs and has been featured in many articles. The skull has been subjected to in-depth research and has even evoked controversy. It is a human sized crystal skull made of high quality clear quartz and it is of exquisite beauty. Its weight is 11.7 lbs. It has a detachable lower jaw, which makes this crystal skull unique. The Mitchell-Hedges skull was discovered on January 1, 1924 in the ruins of a Mayan City in Belize, called Lubaantun, city of the fallen stones, during an expedition of F.A. Mitchell-Hedges. It was actually his adopted daughter Anna, who, according to the story, discovered the skull on her 17th birthday. After the death of her father Anna took care of the skull and did a lot of traveling around with it, giving many people the opportunity to see and to connect with this special crystal skull. She gave it to Frank Dorland for six years to study the crystal skull. Frank Dorland’s experiences have been summarized in his book ‘Holy Ice’, published in 1992.
